I really liked the unique atmosphere of this story-- the rain, the dark weather, the character's restrained mood all contrasting with the vibrant red balloon. I'm curious to know more about who he is taking the balloon for and what the dynamic is between them. I'm personally fond of reflective pieces which linger in ordinary moments while communicating something compelling about the character, and I felt this story fit right into that category.
Thanks Prakriti, it was inspired by me walking through pouring rain carrying a big red heart shaped balloon, and the deeper point is about performative actions vs consistent every day less noticeable actions.
i love how you painted a picture of the story here, the scene with the homeless man felt so real
That balloon filling the rear view mirror is such a perfect little menace... like it won’t let him pretend he’s cool or done.
Exactly!!
