Here’s a small extra called 'Just Tired' A short story about one of the side characters from my novel 'Inside the Suit'. I hope you enjoy this moment with David.
I’ve just really enjoyed reading ‘Just Tired’; when I read a story, I’m usually in such a rush to discover the conclusion. But this experience was different - the beauty of the language carefully chosen, constructed and steeped in metaphor, took me on a gentle journey, like travelling down a lazy river that quelled my impatience, completely mesmerized me and enriched my soul. The deep insight into the human condition, the microscopic attention to detailed description and the use of concepts that seem ‘ordinary’ and elevating them to the ‘extraordinary’ make this work a joy to encounter and savour. Can’t wait for the sequel!
Very enjoyable read! And I love the approach of using substack as a space for stories about side characters in a main project. Balances the standalone, try something new opportunity while still being part of a focused whole. I'll give it a try
Oh wow! I am happy to have read this! My own life for the past several years includes being one of the gringa touristas who frequents near a coastal malecon. I like to stay around the Mexican ghettos. And when here, I see many of your same words come to life. I am in awe of the real life of the many types of exhausted Mexican people. Whenever I think I am exhausted, and cannot take more heat, more work, and more sunshine, I open my eyes wider and shut up. They are teaching me, everyday. The energy, the intent, matters so much. Now more than ever, I love to pay attention, and give it freely. The smiles, and the little ways of caring, are so very important. I cannot wait to see where this 'story' takes me.

This was a great read. I felt the heat behind my knees and the quiet concern for Hugo. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks Liz, glad you enjoyed it. 😀
